Bonding and Maternal Care

Skin-to-skin contact usually refers to the practice when a newborn baby is placed directly on a mother's bare chest. It helps the baby transition from the womb and calms and relaxes both baby and mother. But sometimes the process of the cesarean section can delay that important moment even for several hours. Centra’s Birth Center at Virginia Baptist Hospital offers skin-to-skin bonding after ALL deliveries and has since 2015.
